The Story of Us: Human Beings Through Time

This workshop offers a fresh look at the Montessori elementary history curriculum with a special focus on the study of human beings. Participants will work hands-on with history materials, exploring the updated presentations for the First and Second Timeline of Human Beings and connect the history themes to broader curricular goals.

Key Topics

  • Exploring deep history and contrasting that with the story of humanity

  • Linking Montessori history with National curriculum expectations

  • Taking a step back to explore the history album as a backdrop for Cosmic Education

Mathematics - From Foundations to Flourishing

This refresher course begins at the same developmental entry point as the elementary classroom, examining how children typically engage with mathematics at around six years of age. Participants will explore the range of tools available to Elementary Montessori Guides for assessing numeracy skills and for building a strong, individualized foundation from those observations.

The course then progresses through the mathematics album using a spiraling approach. Rather than focusing on isolated topics, each chapter is examined in terms of how it supports the evolving needs of the elementary learner. Emphasis is placed on presenting concepts across the elementary years, rather than adhering to a fixed sequence.

Finally, the course highlights a variety of math extensions and games designed to spark curiosity, deepen engagement, and foster a lasting enjoyment of mathematics.

Key Topics:

  • Foundational and Transitional Math Activities

  • Using Psychoarithmetic as a means for determining what to present and when

  • Taking a step back to make sure that the math skills that children are developing are connected to their lived reality
